about debbie yazbek
Starting out in photography in the advertising world, Debbie found herself victim in the late 1980s to a bomb blast while on assignment to the Wild Coast. It was then that she made the decision to try her hand at photojournalism, recording South African history as it unfolded. Having achieved this and after receiving several awards nationally and internationally, she was appointed pictures editor of The Star newspaper. Debbie is currently freelancing for various publications.

Twice recipient of the Press Photographer of the Year award 1998 & 2003 (remains the only woman recipient)
The first photographer and woman to have won The Nat Nakasa Award for Media integrity 2003.
Commissioned to do Nelson Mandela's official portrait,
First place in the regional section, Commonwealth Photographic Competition 2002.
First place in the photographic section- CNN Journalist of the year 2005.
Exhibited jointly in Holland Toronto and Washington 2006.
Exhibited at the UN Climate Change Conference held in Bali 2007.
